Identity Card
Indignity
28-Jun-05, House of Commons.
LibDems and Conservatives agree on the
potential indignity of identity cards during the Identity
Card debate in the House of Commons.
Adam Afriyie MP, inquires whether LibDem MP
Mark Oaten agrees with him on ID cards.
"Does the hon. Gentleman consider it
dignified for the elderly and those with disabilities to
queue to have their retinas scanned and their fingerprints
taken to be processed by the Government?."
Mark Oaten MP, response
"It is certainly much more intrusive than the current
system, which involves going to Boots to have a photograph
taken and then sending the passport off. We must recognise
that the process and the way it is handled will have quite
an impact on people who feel uncomfortable about the process
of having their fingerprints, face and irises scanned."

I
believe...
People are happier when making their own decisions.
Business is the engine of the economy that generates our
jobs, incomes and taxes.
Government should not interfere in our lives beyond
protecting and defending us.
