Adam Afriyie MP has welcomed the Government adopting a policy advocated as Shadow Minister for Science and Innovation.
Last Wednesday, the Government appointed a Chief Scientific Adviser to the Treasury.[1] The role will be filled by James Richardson, the Treasury’s director of public spending. Until the position was announced, the Treasury was the only major Government department without a Chief Scientific Adviser.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr Afriyie said:
“I am delighted that this Government recognises the importance of scientific advice and has implemented a policy that I strongly advocated as shadow science minister
“By appointing a Chief Scientific Adviser to the Treasury, this Government is putting in place the final foundations that will secure sound scientific advice and evidence-based policy making for the future.”
